Equipment designed and certified for use in a combustible dust environment has some unique issues. The depth of dust layer that is permitted to form is limited, depending on the certification options. In general, NO amount of dust is a good amount of dust.

  • Documentation missing or incorrect
  • No certificate of conformity
  • Not IECEx or ANZEx certified with no Conformity Assessment Document.
  • Labels missing or not illegible
  • Cable damage
  • Poor cable termination techniques
  • Uncertified cable glands or glands not having the correct IP rating for dusts (IP66)
  • Damage to the enclosure seals
  • Wet dust/fibres caking on heatsink fins of motors
  • Uncontrolled layers of dust on the equipment
  • Poor housekeeping
  • Poor working practices, like using air to move the dust around.
